28 days to go!!!

Ubuntu: For Desktops, Servers, Netbooks and in the cloud

Yup it’s that time of the year again it’s like X-mas in the spring..

I’ve just purchased an arduino clone from http://www.seeedstudio.com/ omg these things are so cool I’ve been making midi interfaces using various sensors like piezo transducers to make drum kits and other things I’ll post photos & code soon.. I’ve also purchased a protosheild, Motor servo Control Shield from adafruit along with other fun kits TV_B_Gone that turns off most televisons great & fun gag device ๐Ÿ™‚ & a MiniPOV3 kit that has 8 LED’s when you wave it in the air it writes messages. I’ve seen this sold as a toy but the kits are so much fun to build & mod if you would like.  at lastly I purcahsed a Danger Shild for the arduino that’s great for learning hot to interface the arduino with various components this is what it has:

  • 3 x linear sliders w/ integrated LEDs (each independently hooked up to PWM)
  • 3 x pushbuttons
  • 2 x indicator LEDs (each with a PWM)
  • 1 x piezo buzzer (for making noise!)
  • 1 x temperature sensor
  • 1 x light sensor
  • 1 x knock sensor
  • 1 x 7 segment LED (with shift register)
  • power LED and reset button

I’ve had some fun using the sliders to control knobs via Midi in various Linux Music compositon software using a Library & program called ttymidi you can program your arduino to output various Midi control data to usb… ttymidi=cheap arduino based Costum Midi Controllers.. ๐Ÿ˜€

Songbird – Open Source Music Player

My Last blog post was about Flock well there is another bad @ss project powered by mozilla called Songbird – Open Source Music Player. What is Songbird exactly well it’s as the name may suggest it’s a music player but not like any other Music player it’s built around a web browser why would you do that well i’ll list some of the features

Smart Playlists
Create dynamic playlists that automatically update based on criteria you set.

Concert Tickets
Discover upcoming shows in your area based on the artists in your library. Event listings powered by Songkick.

Last.fm Scrobbling
Integrated Last.fm support that allows you to scrobble, love, and ban your tracks.

Album Artwork
Display the currently playing trackโ€™s album art and write new artwork back to the file.

Shoutcast Radio
SHOUTcast RadioStream music using the integrated SHOUTcast Radio directory.

Customize with Add-ons
Enhance with the use of Theme Add-ons and feature plugins just like Firefox

Songbirds misson statment is:
Songbird promises to be the Firefox of media players

sound like a lot to look up too but this is a very awsome crossplatform media player.
worth looking into & watching what happens to it but so far it’s great & very fun to use as a web browser that plays some of your own killer tunes & introduces you to new ones over the big network..

Blogged with the Flock Browser

I’ve been using this really neat feature packed browser called Flock lately Flock is a Mozilla based browser with just about everything you would need jammed into one place. You can log into many online services including Facebook, Gmail, Digg, Flickr, WordPress & many others you can get a complete list of services here.  Some of the most interesting features that I use are the photo uploader & in browser blog poster. this browser is so feature packed it’s insane, it’s also expandable by extentions just like other Mozilla browsers, But it really has just about everything you would possibly need.
